[AUSTRIAN CIRCUS POSTER]. Circa 1912.

22½x34½ inches, 57¼x87 cm. J. Weiner, Vienna.
Condition B+: repaired tears at edges, some slightly into image; minor creases in image. Matted and framed.

This image may depict the popular Viennese vaudeville troupe of Liliputstaadt performers, directed by Leopold von Singer. Liliputstaadt, a "midget city" at the Venice in Vienna amusement park, was the invention of Singer and his wife, Walberga. Though we were unable to find any other images showing this exact poster, other posters of Singer's troupe depict similar small-statured people, with period dresses and flower headpieces, horse drawn carriages with drivers in this same blue suit. This textless poster was printed in Vienna, providing another clue to its identity.
